Faith Can Move Mountains / Wonder Often Doubled Sided DIY Sign

Sometimes a project comes together even better than I imagined, and this Faith Can Move Mountains sign was one of those projects. Be sure to keep reading to see the OTHER side of the sign, along with the DIY video for that.

I wanted to show that stencils designed for hats can be used in all kinds of creative ways. When I looked at the beautiful mountain scene included in the Faith Can Move Mountains stencil, I immediately started imagining it as wall décor instead of a hat design.

I began with a simple wood surface and created a colorful background using layers of soft blues, pinks, browns, and earthy tones. At first, it looked like a complete mess—which is often how my favorite backgrounds start! After blending and softening the colors, a peaceful mountain sunset began to emerge.

The mountain scene was built in layers using different shades of green for the trees and landscape. Adding lighter and darker colors helped create depth and dimension throughout the design. The small details, like the flowers, pathways, and mountain ranges, are what really brought the entire piece to life.

Once the landscape was complete, I added the phrase “Faith Can Move Mountains” across the top. The wording perfectly tied everything together and serves as a daily reminder that God can work through situations that seem impossible to us.

One of my favorite parts of this project was adding multiple mountain ranges in varying shades of gray. Using light and dark colors helped create the illusion of sunlight and shadows across the mountains, giving the scene even more depth.

As I worked on this piece, I couldn’t help but think about the message behind the words. Faith doesn’t remove every mountain in our path, but it gives us the strength and confidence to trust God through every challenge. Sometimes we simply need to believe a little more and worry a little less.

This project turned into one of my favorite faith-based signs, and I love how peaceful the finished mountain scene feels. It’s a beautiful reminder that with faith, all things are possible.

For the background, I started with a simple white stain and blended soft shades of blue, gray, burlap, brown, green, and yellow. My goal was to create the feeling of an autumn evening, with a muted sky and warm sunlight in the distance. Even when I accidentally painted the board upside down, I was able to fix it and ended up liking the corrected version even better! It’s a good reminder that most crafting mistakes are completely fixable.

The focal point of this side is the phrase “Wonder Often,” which came from the Wonder Often hat stencil. I stenciled the words in a soft buttermilk color and paired them with a beautiful bicycle transfer from the Cozy Farmhouse collection. The bicycle loaded with pumpkins immediately tells a story and brings the whole design to life.

As I worked, I found myself imagining where the rider might be headed. Maybe they’re visiting family. Maybe they’re returning from a pumpkin patch. Maybe they’re simply enjoying a peaceful autumn afternoon. That’s one of the things I love most about crafting—every piece can tell its own story.

To coordinate with the larger sign, I also created a smaller double-sided oval featuring a pumpkin basket transfer on one side and an adorable Wildflower Ghost transfer on the other. Together, the two pieces make a charming fall decorating set that can be displayed on a shelf, mantel, entry table, or tiered tray.

This project was a wonderful reminder to slow down and appreciate the beauty around us. Whether it’s a mountain view, a country road, colorful fall leaves, or a simple bike ride, there is inspiration everywhere if we take the time to notice it.
