DIY Coastal Sea Turtle Pallet Board Sign
Sometimes a project just comes together exactly the way I imagined it, and this coastal sea turtle sign turned out so pretty. I wanted something soft, beachy, and inspiring, and the colors from the new coastal collection worked perfectly together.
For this project, I used a small pallet board from Michaels and layered several ocean-inspired paint colors across each slat. I chose my paint colors directly from the beautiful “Under the Sea” transfers because I wanted everything to coordinate naturally.
The quote I used says:
“You can never cross the ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”
I thought that was such a beautiful reminder about courage, growth, and trying new things.
Supplies Used
- Pallet board from Michaels
- Essential Stencil “Sea Turtle Courage” stencil
- Under the Sea transfer set
- DecoArt acrylic paints:
- Desert Turquoise
- Green Lagoon
- Perfect Perry
- Paradise Green
- Venetian Gold acrylic paint
- Chip brushes
- Sanding block
- Polycrylic sealer
I painted each slat a different color and softly faded the paint toward the edges so the darker wood still showed through. That gave the whole piece a weathered coastal look without needing heavy distressing.
Once the paint dried, I stenciled the quote using Venetian Gold paint. I loved how the metallic gold tied into the shimmer already built into the transfers.
After the lettering was finished, I added some of the sea-themed transfers, including a gorgeous mermaid tail and shell accents. The colors matched perfectly and gave the sign just enough detail without feeling overcrowded.
One thing I really love about this collection is that you don’t have to be a “coastal decorator” to use it. So many of the elements can work for:

- Lake house decor
- Inspirational signs
- Beach-themed gifts
