Honey Bee Decor Blocks with Blended Stains and Vintage Transfers
There’s just something about bees, soft vintage colors, and rustic wood that feels warm and welcoming to me. In this project, I created a set of double-sided honey bee decor blocks using layered water-based stains, crackle finishes, and some beautiful bee transfers from Essential Stencil.
These little 5×5 blocks turned out even prettier than I imagined. Each one has its own blended background with soft blues, greens, and warm browns that almost look like little landscape scenes. I wanted them to feel natural and aged, almost like tiny pieces of vintage artwork.
One of my favorite parts of this project was blending the stains directly over a white base coat while everything was still wet. That helped soften the colors and gave the backgrounds a dreamy, layered look. I used tapping motions with my sponge to create texture that reminded me of grass, trees, and cloudy skies.

After blending the stain colors and distressing the edges a bit, I added the honey bee transfers. I love how versatile transfers are because you can completely change the look just by rearranging the pieces. One block features a large bee with florals, another has a honey jar and bees, and the third has a softer botanical look that reminds me of herbs growing in a kitchen window.
I also added stained wooden knobs to the tops of the blocks for a little extra detail. They almost make the blocks look like decorative finials or tiny vintage signs.
What I really love most is that these are double-sided. One side has the honey bee designs, and the other side has the crackled floral finish from our earlier project. It gives you two completely different looks in one set of decor.
These would be beautiful styled on:
- A kitchen shelf
- A coffee or tea station
- A tiered tray
- A spring mantel display
- A farmhouse entry table
I finished everything off with a simple jar, some florals, corrugated cardboard, and ribbon for styling. Sometimes simple touches really bring everything together!
