One of my favorite decorating tricks is creating pieces that can be displayed for multiple seasons. Not only does it save storage space, but it also gives you more decorating options throughout the year. In this project, I transformed a simple wooden cutting board into a beautiful double-sided décor piece that combines autumn style with an encouraging scripture message.

Supplies Used

  • Wooden Cutting Board
  • Dixie Bell Vintage Duck Egg Paint
  • Romans 12:12 Transfer
  • Autumn Flowers Transfer Collection
  • Essential Stencil Transfer Tool
  • Sanding Sponge
  • Cheesecloth
  • Raffia
  • Jute Twine
  • Brown Craft Paint
  • Decorative Fall Embellishments

For the fall side, I started by painting the cutting board with Dixie Bell Vintage Duck Egg, a gorgeous soft blue that pairs beautifully with warm autumn tones. Once the paint was completely dry, I lightly sanded the surface and wiped away any dust to prepare it for transfers.

The focal point of the design is the scripture from Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

I chose a rich brown color palette to complement the warm fall florals and create a cozy seasonal feel. The brown lettering stands out beautifully against the soft blue background while still maintaining a vintage farmhouse look.

After applying the scripture transfer, I began layering in pieces from the Autumn Flowers transfer collection. Instead of using only the larger floral images, I intentionally selected some of the smaller wheat stems, leaves, florals, acorns, and accents. Sometimes those little pieces get overlooked, but they can add so much interest and detail to a project.

I arranged the elements around the verse to create movement and balance while keeping the scripture as the main focus. A few tiny ladybugs and acorn accents helped bring the design to life and gave the cutting board a whimsical touch.

To finish the project, I added a simple cheesecloth bow accented with raffia. The soft texture complements the rustic style perfectly and ties together the warm autumn colors found throughout the design.

This project is a great reminder that transfers don’t always have to be used exactly as packaged. Small floral elements, wheat stems, acorns, and tiny accents can often become the perfect finishing touches for custom seasonal décor.

And as a daily reminder, Romans 12:12 encourages us to remain joyful, patient, and faithful no matter what season of life we’re walking through. It’s a message worth displaying all year long.

Double-Sided!

I also did a design on the other side of this bread board. Love this patriotic design, that makes this board useful for more than one season!
